Thoracic Surgery

These surgeries are performed in the thoracic surgery department in our hospital. The treatments are carried out in coordination with the oncology department. In cases where a permanent central port catheter is required for patients who will receive chemotherapy, these treatments and operations are also performed in our department.

Bronchoscopy: Anesthetized patient’s entire respiratory tract is examined with the help of a light tube for diagnosis and treatment, during which the patient feels no pain; if necessary, a biopsy sample is collected from the respiratory tract; or the airway blockages are opened by means of cages called stents or by laser.

Esophagoscopy: Diagnosis and treatment of esophagus, trauma, foreign body, benign or malignant tumors.

Mediastinoscopy, Mediastinotomy: This is a procedure performed on an anesthetized patient, involving use of a light tube and removal of tissue samples from the lymph nodes to which the lung drains in order to make a diagnosis.

Bronchiectasis: This involves the treatment of the diseases that cause chronic inflammation of the airways due to upper respiratory and bronchitis disorders experienced frequently in childhood.

Lung cysts (hydatid cysts): Diagnosis and treatment of lung membrane disorders, simple microbial membrane inflammation (pleuritis), purulent inflammation of the lung (empyema), and tumors (benign or malignant) in the lungs are performed in our hospital.

Thoracic surgery is a department involving the surgical treatment of chest, chest wall and intrathoracic organ diseases.

In this context, the most common surgical diseases include:

Also, surgical treatment of esophageal diseases, reflux and swallowing difficulties are the specialty of this department. Deformations of the chest wall, shoemaker’s chest and pigeon chest are surgically corrected.
