The Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology deals with diseases of the musculoskeletal system, the so-called skeletal system. Orthopedics covers the problems caused by trauma (tapping-impact) in the musculoskeletal system. On the other hand, the Traumatology Unit deals with the musculoskeletal system diseases that develop after aging trauma. In this department, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of diseases are performed in all areas of orthopedics and traumatology.
Traumatology deals with musculoskeletal disorders following a stroke, impact or accident, arthroplasty (joint prosthesis surgery), arthroscopic surgery (closed surgery operations applied in intraarticular problems), hand surgery-microsurgery (suture of severed limbs), spine diseases surgery, pediatric orthopedics (including acquired pediatric orthopedic disorders and congenital musculoskeletal disorders, as well as tumors in musculoskeletal system.
Spine Disorders
Disorders of the spine are within the area of interest of this branch of medicine. Curvatures and fractures in the spine, which are among the most common disorders, constitute the major cases. Curvature of the spine may be congenital or may occur later in life. They may rather develop in connection with spinal fractures following accidents, injuries and sometimes with bone resorption or the spreading of tumors.
Traumatology
Traumatology is the department that is responsible for the treatment of musculoskeletal diseases that occur after impacts, crashes, falls and traffic accidents. The traumatology unit deals with the treatment of tissue damages such as damages of muscles, tendons and ligaments, which we call soft tissue injuries.
Arthroscopic Surgery
Arthroscopic surgery is the diagnosis and start of treatment of diseases of the joint region by closed surgery method.
Arthroplasty
Arthroplasty is commonly known as joint prosthesis surgery. The prostheses used by our specialist physicians replaces the damaged joints. Even though knee and hip prosthesis operations are performed frequently, other operations performed include shoulder, elbow, ankle, wrist and finger prosthesis applications.
Tumors of the Musculoskeletal System
Diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of the tumors seen in the musculoskeletal system are performed by our specialist physicians within our hospital.
Pediatric Orthopedics
Pediatric Orthopedics, commonly known as children’s orthopedics, deals with both muscular and skeletal diseases of children. However, our physicians act with the awareness that the health and structure of children are more sensitive than that of adults. Diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of have progress quite differently.
